Recaro Child Safety to close after 20 years

Transport seating expert Recaro has announced that it will be closing down the Child Safety division of its company, which manufactures children’s car seats and strollers.

Business operations for Recaro Child Safety will end on 31 July 2018, although products will continue to be sold until 31 December 2018.

Poor sales and an intensely competitive market forced the business to make the difficult decision to close the division, exactly 20 years after its first infant car seat was launched to the market. Although the company made a number of cost-cutting measures last year, these were not enough to compensate for the downturn in business.

‘This was a tough decision to make, but had become unavoidable due to the ongoing loss situation,” explained managing director Ralf Kinderman. “We will do our utmost to ensure that the cessation of operations is fair and orderly, and we have the full support of Recaro Holding in this regard. At the same time, we are of course open for discussions with investors who may be interested in parts of the operation.”
Recaro has said that it will honour consumers’ warranties until the end of 2019.
