The Gruffalo makes shortlist for Blue Peter book awards

Preschool favourite The Gruffalo has secured its place in the shortlist for the 20th anniversary of the Blue Peter book awards, held in partnership with the UK’s largest children’s reading charity, BookTrust.

The charity has partnered with Blue Peter to celebrate 20 years of brilliant children’s books as part of the initiative, which will see children from across the UK voting for their favourite Blue Peter Book Award winning title from across the last two decades.

The winner will be chosen from a shortlist of ten previous Blue Peter Book Award winners, featuring some of the biggest names in children’s literature. The results will be announced alongside the winners of the 2020 Awards live on Blue Peter’s World Book Day special, on Thursday 5th March 2020.

Written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, The Gruffalo is the only preschool book to make the shortlist, which was created by a panel of 20 experts which included Jim Sells from the National Literacy Trust and Florentyna Martin from Waterstones.

The Gruffalo celebrated its 20th year in 2019 with a raft of additional activity and licensing partnerships, including a tie-up with the Royal Mint and its first Alexa voice experience.
