The Big Toy Rehoming campaign returns

Following its success in June, campaign returns to The Entertainer until September 28.

The Big Toy Rehoming Campaign – which successfully saw 6,000 un-played with toys rehomed during June – is back at The Entertainer for an extended period.

The campaign kicked off once again last week (September 5) and runs until September 28, taking in National Recycle Week.

The campaign to give unloved toys a new lease of life and reduce the volume of toys that find their way into household bins is in partnership with The Salvation Army and will run nationally with The Entertainer across its 171 stores.

Families are urged to bring any suitable toys which are no longer played with to their local store and these will be passed to The Salvation Army for rehoming.

Across the course of three days in June, new homes were found for over 6,000 toys – this is the equivalent to three tonnes of waste (based on 500 grams per toy).

“After the success of our first Big Toy Rehoming campaign which collected over 6,000 toys, we are thrilled to re-launch the campaign in September with the continued support of The Salvation Army,” said Gary Grant, founder and executive chairman of The Entertainer. “As a retailer, we’re committed to reducing our plastic waste by extending the lifecycle of toys and supporting the Salvation Army in the process.

“We hope that the longer period to drop off toys will encourage more people to become involved with rehoming toys they no longer play with; helping the environment and helping others at the same time.”

Kirk Bradley, head of corporate partnerships at The Salvation Army, added: “Donations from the last Big Toy Rehoming campaign hugely helped The Salvation Army in continuing to provide practical and emotional support for vulnerable people in the UK.

“It’s such a worthwhile cause and we’re looking forward to the public joining in again and hopefully breaking June’s record.”
