Playmobil outlines ambitious sustainability targets

The theme Discover the Planet, which will be launched this year with an extensive, newly developed first product range, consists on average of 80% sustainable materials.

Horst Brandstätter Group – which owns the Playmobil brand – has outlined its ambitious corporate sustainability goals.

By 2027, the group of companies is to be climate-neutral and avoid emissions. The enterprise is already involved in off-shore parks and is going to invest around €50 million in climate protection in the coming years. By 2030, business models are to be as circular as possible, i.e. part of closed material cycles.

“With a wide range of activities, we are supporting the reduction of global emissions and thus also the goals of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to well below two degrees Celsius,” explained Steffen Höpfner, ceo of the Horst Brandstätter Group.

Product highlights for 2022 display how Playmobil is already focusing on sustainability.

The Discover the Planet theme will launch in July with an extensive product range, and will consist on average of 80% sustainable materials. Post-consumer recycled materials and bio-based plastics are used, with a large proportion consisting of recyclate obtained from discarded refrigerators.

The products themselves will invite children to discover the Amazon rainforest. Packaging of the figures and animals will be made from almost 100% recycled cardboard, while building instructions will consist of 100% recycled paper.
