Popular high street department store John Lewis has published a ‘Nursery Trends 2019’ report, which reveals the top products on parents’ wishlists and key nursery trends to watch out for.
The report – which can be downloaded in full from the John Lewis website – is a nine-page document which covers everything from the bestselling items in the retailer’s product portfolio to which colour has become the most popular for nurseries.
The report also reveals a number of key statistics about consumer buying patterns. The most usual appointment time for new parents is around two hours, during which time they will spend, on average, £765.
The top products on parents’ wishlists include everything from the classic Sophie la girafe (which topped the list at number one) right through to the Maxi-Cosi Pebble Plus i-Size baby car seat (which came in at number ten).
The report also revealed they grey is now the best-selling option across nursery furniture and decor, with white also remaining popular. The neutral colour options are now six times more popular than previous bestsellers pink or blue.
Nursery trends highlighted in the document included ‘tech’ parents, ‘sustainable’ parents and ‘looking ahead’ parents.
“Preparing for the arrival of a new baby is an exciting but often daunting time,” said Caroline Bettis, head of buying, childrenswear and nursery.

“Parents-to-be can be overwhelmed with conflicting advice and can find it difficult to have a clear idea about what products are right for them and their baby,” she continued. “We have expert nursery partners in every store who can help and advise new parents with those important decisions.”
