GBG marks 3 years as AKO Autistic Charity supporter

Games company continues backing at three events throughout 2018.

Green Board Games is marking three years of support for the Anna Kennedy Online Autistic Charity.

The games and puzzles company – which has a number of products in its portfolio that lend themselves well to the SEN domain – will be supporting the charity at three events this year.

First of all, it will be a sponsor at the AKO Autism Awareness Expo, which takes place at Uxbridge University on March 10. The event is designed to provide a forum whereby those needing more information can consult with experts, find out more about autism and its related conditions and seek educational and legal advice.

Having further extended its support for the charity this year, GBG is also sponsoring national competition Autism’s Got Talent on May 12, in addition to the Autism Hero Awards on October 13.

A number of GBG products – including lines aimed at preschoolers such as Brainbox Jigsaws and the Story Cards range, as well as the Sensory Games fidget toys from Mindware – are well suited to children who have an autistic spectrum disorder.

For children with autism it is usually a matter of finding games that will occupy their attention, facilitating the development of their social and cognitive skills.

In her book, The Autistic Spectrum: A Guide for Parents and Professionals, Lorna Wig says: “Children with autistic spectrum disorders tend to prefer toys that involve visuo-spatial skills such as shape and colour matching, jigsaw puzzles or constructional materials.”

Anna Kennedy, founder of the AKO autism charity said of GBG’s continued sponsorship: “Thank you to Green Board Games for supporting UK autism charity Anna Kennedy Online.

“With the help of their sponsorship we are forging ahead to raise further awareness and create more opportunities for individuals on the autism spectrum.”
