Preschool lines shine at Nuremberg Toy Awards

Winners crowned at opening night ceremony as show gets off to a strong start.

The 69th Nuremberg Toy Fair has got off to a strong start, with the event having already set a record before it opened its doors.

Taking place from January 31 to February 4, the show attracted 2,902 exhibitors this year – an increase of 31 on the year before.

The first night saw the official opening ceremony and, as part of this, the winners for this year’s ToyAwards were crowned.

Four accolades are awarded overhaul – including one for the Baby & Infant category (0-3) and one for Preschool (3-6).

Winners are decided by a ten-man jury – comprising market researchers, educators, international sales agents and a toy safety expert. Across the board, this year’s award received a record number of entries – 643, up from 635 in 2017.

The winner of the Baby & Infant category was Kullerbü – Car Park-Play Track, Habermaass. The jury commented that HABA’s car park-play track was a genuine multi-talent, made from quality materials and offered a ‘seemingly endless amount of playing options’.

Meanwhile, Robo Chameleon from Silverlit Toys was victorious in the Preschool category.

Featuring wide eyes and robot-like embellishments, a remote control moves the toy through a child’s room to train their dexterity in a fun way. Again, the jury concluded that it has a ‘high play value’.

All of this year’s ToyAward winners – pictured above with Spielwarenmesse’s Ernst Kick – are on display in a designated area in the TrendGallery in Hall 3A at the show until February 4.
